Caddie Corner: The FedEx Playoffs & a 9/11 Remembrance
Scottie Scheffler is back to his dominant best. He ran away with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind by eight shots over Si Woo Kim — the largest winning margin in the event’s history and his 21st Tour title. Mike Hicks credits the win to relentless, pin-high iron play and the calm of a player who’s led plenty of Sundays. He also gets into Sam Burns’ struggles off some rust, the mental grind of the players who just miss the cut and replay every decision on the flight home, and looks ahead to the BMW Championship at Bellerive and the run to East Lake — where he likes Rory McIlroy, Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im.
Bellerive carries weight for Mike: he was there on September 11, 2001, when the tour event was called off. In that spirit, he and Jeff spotlight the second annual Cars & Cocktails event on September 11 — a veterans fundraiser from Appreciate Your Service at Avila Country Club, where Mike is set to give the keynote.

Caddying for Payne Stewart: 12 Years on the Bag
This is the story behind the title. Mike tells how he met Payne Stewart in Japan, offered to caddie after Stewart parted with his previous looper, and turned a one-month trial into a 12-year partnership. He shares the turning point in Chattanooga — a piece of honest feedback about leaving putts short that cemented their trust — and how sports psychologist Dr. Richard Coop helped Stewart finally close on Sundays.
Then the knickers: the look came from Stewart’s father (“the louder you dress, the more tension you put on yourself”), took off after his first Tour win at the 1982 Quad Cities, and doubled as a disguise that let Payne disappear into a crowd. Mike also remembers the man’s humor — needling Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, the banana-in-the-shoe pranks — and why tour pros mostly go quiet inside the ropes.

The Golfers Unite Creator Cup at Tamarack
Last week Emily Nowak ran a full short-game clinic — this week Golfers Unite is throwing a party in the Idaho mountains. Jeff and Tamarack’s Richard Lyons preview the first Golfers Unite Creator Cup: a single-day event on September 25 at Tamarack Resort in Donnelly, Idaho (about 90 minutes from Boise), played on Osprey Meadows, the Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that Golfweek named the #1 public course in the state.
